Like Ayurveda and Unani , Siddha too is a traditional system of medicine which emerged in ancient India. This system has a Dravidian origin and the entire literature that is found is in Tamil language. The traces found show that lord Shiva had the supreme knowledge of Siddha and he then passed it to his disciples. Siddha system uses metals, minerals and some chemical products for the treatment. The basic concepts of Siddha are much similar to Ayurveda. It says that when the stability of three humors (vatha, pitha and kapha) is disturbed it is then the disease is caused. Factors affect the stability of these elements are environment, climatic conditions, diet, physical activities and stress. This concept of Siddha medicine is termed as apathy and pathya which is a list of several do’s and dont’s of this treatment. It follows a proper siddha diet, medication and siddha yoga. Treatment through siddha is categorized into following categories of therapies: Purgative therapy, Emetic therapy, Fasting therapy, Steam therapy, Oleation therapy, Physical therapy , Solar therapy, yoga therapy.
