Benefits & Uses of Ashokarishta

1. Metrorrhagia,Menorrhagia& Menometrorrhagia

When women face heavy bleeding specifically not during their menstruation phase, the condition is termed as Menorrhagia. The bleeding is excessive and lasts for a longer time which makes it abnormal. It shows there is a uterine disease.

Menometrorrhagia, on the other hand, is a combination of metrorrhagia and menorrhagia. In Ayurveda, this drug is the solution to all related problems. The bleeding stops and the functions of the uterine are regulated to normal levels.

In case the bleeding is a cause of cervical cancer, uterine polyps or uterine cancer, in such cases, the herb/medicine might prove ineffective.

In Menorrhagia, people face constipation. Here, they also need Dantyarishta with the  Ashokarishta. If a patient suffers from pain, then Gokshuradi Guggulu can be provided along with medicine Ashokarista.

2. Dysmenorrhea (Pain while on periods)

Ashokarishta is a tonic for Uterine, to improve functions and also to modulate the uterine contractions. It provides immense strength to the uterus and helps in dislodging of the lining in the uterine during menstruation. It prevents inadequate blood supply toward the uterus. Thus, it helps to reduce menstrual cramps. Also, Ashokarishta reduces a premenstrual headache, low backache, nausea,  etc.

Ashoka bark raises the level of Prostaglandin, and phytoestrogen modulates the production of the prostaglandin. The level is usually raised in cases like primary dysmenorrhea.

It is very beneficial to a woman who bleeds profusely and feels the camp. Also, when the menstrual flow of blood is reduced then Ashokrishta can be consumed. The dosage can be taken in low quantity twice. In the case of severe pain, Yograj Guggulu can be taken with Ashokrishta. Kumaryasava should not be used when pitta symptoms like bleeding, Hyperacidity, Burning sensation, Heat, vertigo increases. Instead, one can use Praval Pishti,  Kamdudha Ras or Sutshekhar Ras with Ashokarishta inadequate dose.

Ashokarishta is a supportive medicine to treat dysmenorrhea, and it assists in maintaining the balance of hormones. Also, it provides immense strength to female reproductive organs. The primary medicine used to treat dysmenorrhea is Kumaryasava, but it is contraindicated in symptoms of increased or aggravated Pitta.

Dosage and Administration

The dose is 10 to 20 ml, twice or thrice each day. In case of heavy bleeding, the physician might increase the quantity
