Healthy Breakfast Ideas

 

Breakfast is the first meal of the day and the most important too. A power packed breakfast keeps you energized all through the day and keeps those cravings for fried and unhealthy stuff aside. Busy mornings are so hurried that we often cling to easy options like a glassful of packed juice which is loaded with sugars or grab a packet of chips or cookies. We do not realize the importance of a healthy hearty breakfast which is the most necessary meal of the day. Here we have some easy to make healthy breakfast recipes which are loaded with proteins and are made with fresh veggies and fruits to give a kick start to your day.

 

1. Spinach Pancakes :

We know your endless love for the the yummy pancakes and this is the reason we bring it here with a healthy twist by adding one of the most healthy vegetable spinach. You must be aware of the endless benefits of spinach which is low in calorie content and high in vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.

 

 Ingredients :

 

  • Fresh spinach leaves - 1 cup
  • Flour for batter - Whole wheat flour - 1/2 cup + refined flour - 1/2 cup.
  • Salt - 1/2 tsp or according to taste.
  • Water/ milk - as much needed to make batter.
  • Oil or melted butter for shallow frying.

 

 Procedure :

 

  • Cook spinach in a little water for 2-3 minutes.
  • Puree spinach. 
  • Mix spinach puree with flour and now add water/milk to form batter. 
  • Add salt to taste.
  • Heat a fry pan. Pour a big spoonful of batter and spread in the shape of a pancake. 
  • Sprinkle a little butter around the pancake.
  • Cook for a few seconds till the pancake changes it colour.
  • Flip the pancake carefully using a spatula and now cook on the other side.
  • Remove from the pan onto a plate and enjoy with a sauce of your choice.

 

 

2. Fresh Fruit muesli :

Muesli is a cereal which is loaded with nuts, dry fruits and wheat flakes. It is a perfect breakfast to start your day with. It is less in calories and nutrient rich. Having muesli in breakfast also helps you keep a check on your weight.

 

Ingredients :

 

  • 1/4 cup muesli 
  • 2/3 cup plain low-fat yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 cup chopped raw almonds
  • 3 cups chopped fresh fruits (such as apples, pears, and peeled oranges)

 

 Procedure : 

 

    • Mix the first four ingredients in a large bowl
    • Now add chopped fruits and mix the mixture.
    • Cover and chill in the refrigerator for a while.
    • Now serve.

 

3. Oatmeal with dried fruits :

Loaded with fiber oatmeal also helps in lowering bad cholesterol. A bowl of hot oatmeal is a perfect way to start your day especially if you are in a weight loss program or dealing with heart disease or diabetes. 

 

Ingredients :

 

    • 1 serving of rolled oats
    • 1 pinch of nutmeg
    • 1 tablespoon sliced almonds
    • 1 tablespoon dry cherries
    • 1 tablespoon roasted pistachios
    • 1 tablespoon honey.

 

Procedure

 

    • Soak the required oats in milk and let it boil for a minute
    • Remove it from the flame.
    • Now add a pinch of nutmeg powder.
    • Add all dried fruits.
    • Now add a dash of honey.
    • Pour the mixture in a bowl and enjoy!

 

4. Blueberry Delight Smoothie :

A blueberry smoothie is a delight for a breakfast. This low in calorie drink has exceptional properties to keep you healthy and going. Blueberries are considered to be rich in antioxidants and also are a good source of potassium. 

 

Ingredients :

 

  • 1 cup skim milk.
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries.
  • 1 Tbsp cold-pressed flaxseeds oil.

 

Preparation :

 

  • Combine milk and blueberries and blend the mixture.
  • Add ice and blend again.
  • Now add flaxseed oil and pour in a glass.

 

5. Vegetable Poha :

 

A bowl of hot veggie poha is the healthiest Indian breakfast liked all across the country.  It is rich in protein and provides immense energy. It also contains iron and carbohydrates. Eating poha with multiple vegetables makes it even more healthier and nutrient packed.

 

Ingredients :

 

  • 2 Cups poha
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 2 Green chillies, sliced
  • A handful of peas
  • Some chopped beans
  • Handful of peanuts
  • 1 squeezed lemon
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil.
  • 2 tbsp mustard seeds.
  • 2 tbsp turmeric powder.
  • Curry leaves.
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing.

 

Preparation :

 

  • Wash poha  and rinse it well.
  • Now drain the water and keep side.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.
  • Add turmeric powder and red chilli powder.
  • Now add curry leaves, green chillies and peanuts.
  • Fry the peanuts and now add diced carrots, peas and beans.
  • Allow them to cook and now add poha.
  • Mix well and now add salt and lemon juice.
  • Now garnish with coriander leaves and serve in a bowl.
